How do you gain knowledge? Where do you learn things that get you through your years and through your day to day? We learn by experiencing, reading, absorbing through our senses, or plainly, being told.  Whether it is at home, in school, in the workplace, or on the playground, we learn skills for life all the time.

After teaching middle school Life Skills in NC, it became evident that a lot of people want to know more about how to do things in everyday life.  I watched children go from helpless to hopeful.  Teaching them the skills to be independent was a wonderful experience.  They learned  how to cook dinner for their families, how to understand and deal with relationships and friendships, how to do laundry.  They learned to like vegetables and how to recognize principles of design and art, and how to repair clothing among so many other things.

I majored in Family and Consumer Sciences (Home Ec) and just so happened to have followed in the footsteps of my mother, a Home Economics major and former Home Ec teacher.  This is what I know; this is what I do.  As I’ve been making changes in my life recently, I thought to myself “Why can’t I teach everyone else what I taught my middle schoolers?”  People ask me questions all the time about everyday living.  So, I decided to kill two birds with one stone- share what I know and fulfill a love for writing.  I will share with anyone that wants to know.

Based on questions that I am asked all the time, I am going to post to this blog and share basic life skills.  Many of these posts will be based primarily on my experience and knowledge. Please read and enjoy.  I hope that you will gain something here.  Please do not hesitate to ask of me further.

Warmest regards, Olivia
