How I Got Here

Hi there.  Thanks for dropping in to read my blog.  I’m hoping to share what I know and just help folks get through their days a little easier.

Here’s an explanation on how I got to this point. Although an Atlanta native, I grew up in the mountains of northwest Georgia.  I have made my way back to the city now via a few other southern states.

In college, I started out wanting to be an industrial psychologist.  In the middle of my coursework, I decided to take a basic clothing construction class.  As soon as I got into it, I knew I had to change my major.  Loved the psych, but was so much more talented in the hands-on work.  So, that semester, I changed my major to Family and Consumer Sciences. (AAFCS) I graduated with a B.S. in FCS from Jacksonville State University.  My plan was to work for the Cooperative Extension service, but the life plan was for me to go into restaurant work.

I have worked in this business for the last thirteen years with a couple of other jobs in between, including design and education.  Originally, it was my plan to own a handful of restaurants.  People I’ve worked with have always called me a “lifer” in this industry.  As they say, all good thing must come to an end.  It’s gotten to a point that I don’t have the burning desire anymore.

A few years ago, I moved to NC and was teaching middle school Life Skills outside of Charlotte.  W.C. Friday Middle School in Dallas, to be exact.  It was the hardest job I’ve ever had, but it taught me just as much as I taught my students.  It was a joy to see them gain independence and a love for new things.

That being said, here I am a few years later, looking at life differently. Seeking change from hospitality management and not sure what is next. Two things I do know: I love sharing what I know about making home life better and I love writing.  With that being said, I’ve decided to write about what I know and love, in turn, be open to the opportunities that follow. Currently, I am growing a business based on this blog- teaching people life skills!

I’m always open to new topics and ideas.  So if there is anything you want to know more about, please contact me through the form below.

Looking forward to sharing with you! Olivia Myers
